"Fashion fads seem to come and go, but forunately for me, knit scarves are always 'in' for those of us who live in New England! While knitting needles and yarn are now available in a myriad of materials, colors, and fibers, one thing remains the same...the technique of knitting taught to me by my grandmother 40 years ago. Whether it is the basic garter stitch or the more complicated feather and fan stitch, I am reminded of her every time I create another one-of-a-kind scarf. In the past year, I have found myself experimenting with several of the hundreds of stitched created by our ancestors so many years ago. Encouraged by my grand-daughter, Zoe, I have also expanded my inventory to include hand-knit berets and slouchy hats."

"Hand-spun wool, silk blends, organic cotton, angora merino and baby alpaca are just a few of the fiber types found in my personal 'candy store' of yarns; formerly referred to as a spare bedroom. I find that today's fibers are much easier to work with on a wooden needle rather than aluminum, steel or plastic. Bamboo is my preference, simply because of the way it feels in my hands. Much like an artist and a favorite paint brush. Just like the yarn, I've lost count of the number of straight, double-pointed, and circular needles of every size stashed in those Rubbermaid tubs and dresser drawers! Knitting is therapeutic for me. It provides instant gratification while at the same time, providing a one-of-a-kind, unique, hand-knit fashion statement for years to come. "Knitting is a link to my heritage. It's one of the many crafts taught to me by my grandmother as a child some 40 years ago. In the past, I've designed my hand-knit creations based on the trendy colors of fashion designer's runways. Lately, I find my color palette imitates warm colors of nature... lots of green, gold, mulberry, and neutrals. Occasionally mixing it up with a shocking pink or a metallic eyelash yarn brings the WOW! factor to my one-of-a-kind designs. 'Knit to be Tied' is a unique scarf collection that can easily accessorize an outfit year round or provide fashion forward warmth on a cold winter's day."

Jan Brosky is a trendy scarf designer who decided that after more than 25 successful years in the banking industry, it was time to turn her hobby of knitting into a business venture. So, in 2004, she did just that, dubbing her unique accessories collection Knit to be Tied. Her hand knit Classic Scarves, Trendy Ties, and Scarflets are fun, whimsical, and bold. Much different from the pot holders her Granny taught her to knit more than 40 years ago! Each scarf is both unique and reflective of the creator’s infectious personality and style. Most scarves are one of a kind.
A native of Plattsburgh, Pennsylvania, Jan and her family moved from Tampa, Florida to New England in 1986. She currently resides in Highgate Springs, Vermont with her high school sweetheart, Vern, and airline pilot. They are the proud parents of two grown sons and two precious granddaughters. Jan’s other hobbies include traveling, photography, freelance writing, and gardening.
